After two thousand years under water, an oak trunk from the Elbe River in Germany was sawn, dried, and turned into valuable material that will last for centuries.

The former chef turned into a sawyer and the two friends began to travel in the area with a portable sawmill to provide custom wood sawing. After 6 years, David bought his own LT40 mobile sawmill. “It was, I believe, in 1990,” recalls David. “So, yes, I’ve been working with a Wood-Mizer sawmill for more than 30 years.”

Mack Lowery turned a tragedy into a dream come true when he finished his stunning hand built, two-story, timber frame home in the dense woodlands of Mississippi. The first log cabin Mack originally built as a young man in 1976 burned in a massive fire that left his family homeless and devastated.

Many Wood-Mizer owners do unique interior projects from wood. Eric Means is one of DIY people. When a 90 cm diameter black walnut tree was cut down by the electric company, Eric Means realized the potential value and was determined to salvage the wood. “I milled it with my Wood-Mizer hydraulic LT40 and ended up with beautiful slabs,” said Eric.

“The idea came from a trip through Norway and Iceland where my wife and I saw quite a few green roof structures on sheds and commercial buildings,” he said. “It triggered an idea that I wanted one at home.”

After 25 years working as a carpenter, John Price starting Smithfield Joinery in the year 2000, his son Leigh joining after his military service. Seven years ago, they implemented a woodland management plan for their acreage. They wanted the woodland to be able to work for itself – to be beautiful and useable at the same time. To do so required thinking about the future of the woodland, how it would be used, and how to maintain it.

An Italian fertilizer company incorporated a Wood-Mizer LT40 sawmill to produce pallets to suit their specific requirements, not realizing at first the various ways the sawmill would provide opportunities for further growing their profits.
